Aarau is proud of its football club, which is over 100 years old. Ever since FC Aarau managed to work its way up into the highest division in 1981, it has managed to remain there, and enjoys an “invincible” reputation. In 1985, FC Aarau won the Swiss Cup under trainer Ottmar Hitzfeld. The team won the championship title in 1912, 1914 and 1993.
Horse racing also has a long tradition in Aarau. Both young and old racing fans meet at the equestrian centre in Schachen to place their bets and enjoy the unique atmosphere. Children can have fun at the supervised playground.
Curling, fencing, break-dance, skating, riding, figure skating, athletics, pontoniering, yoga and countless other sports – very few of which aren’t represented in Aarau by an association or club.
