Schlössli Town Museum

The Schlössli Town Museum in Aarau is housed in one of the oldest buildings in the city area and conveys the history of Aarau both inside and outside of the Schlössli building in a modern way. This historically significant location is directly and closely linked with the political, economic and cultural history of Aarau. Nowadays, the museum has a collection of around 100,000 items and vividly illustrates the different periods between the 16th and 20th centuries.

The collection on the top floor of the tower is of international significance for the history of technology. The exhibition displays objects representing industrial history including optical and astronomical instruments, camera lenses, brochures, plans, building plans, wage lists and number books. 1,700 exhibits alone come from the company archive of Kern & Co. AG.

Temporary exhibitions and events regarding current and historically relevant subjects with reference to the city history of Aarau also take place in the Aarau Schlössli Town Museum.
